Subject: letter from Councillor Peggy Feltmate - survey of basement elevations
As part of the ongoing investigation into the July 24, 2009 flooding, the City is conducting a survey of basement elevations to further understand the cause of flooding and to help see what alternative solutions will work.
Surveys crews will be taking measurements in the next few weeks. This will consist of measuring the outside top of various foundations. In addition to surveying the top of foundations, depth of the basement measurement may also be required for certain homes. In most cases, this will simply consist of inserting a tape measure through a basement window.
If your home is one of those where measurements would be helpful, you will be getting a letter and phone call to check if you want to participate with this survey. You are not obliged to participate in this survey, however this information will be very useful in assessing whether different solutions to the flooding problem will work.
